Jury Duty update - I will be at school on Monday...

I have to call in each evening this coming week to SF Superior Court to find out if I have to go to Court for Jury Selection on any given day. I will keep you posted. If I have a substitute teacher, then I will send out the sub plans the night before I will miss a day of school.

Create four new dream cards to add to your existing six.

You may create your own cards based on meaningful ideas. Here are some ideas that the class came up with:

A collection of something that might be in a bag
A character in a book or movie
A place
A food item
Transportation
An object that can ruin you
an instrument or tool
a symbol
clothing
sport/hobby
an academic subject
a routine (exercise, practice)

See BOLD text below for additions to the week schedule made in class on Tuesday. Paper for both the final Social Pyramid (8-1/2 x 14) and the four additional dream cards can be found in the classroom. 

Maps - No painting in class with the sub. Students may continue to ink borders or white pastel borders. Students that have completed painting may touch up border with matched colored pencil and may also label all Lines, Oceans, Continents, Seas and Gulfs, Rives and Mountains.

The SS text extension activity should be completed if a student has finished all work besides the final social pyramid and the painted world map.

Sub plan for Core 1 and 2:

Period 1 – 4:

Core 1 and 2 – LASS7

1.     After Roll – students will work at their seating chart assigned seats and stay at those tables all day.

2.     Each station group will work on the following activities after the materials are passed out by student volunteers.

a.      Spelling Unit Two

b.     Journal from prompt – Have you ever been lost or have known someone who has – or have you ever lost something.

c.      Mayan Social Pyramid Activity

                                               i.     Design a social pyramid with between 5 – 7 levels of organization for one of the following organizations that you were assigned (1/3 of class per each – see student list for assignment)

1.     Mayan – p 262

2.     Hall Middle School

3.     Another organization - examples

a.      Corporation

b.     Baseball team

c.      Opera company

                                              ii.     Sketch out the 5 – 7 layers of the social pyramid on 8-1/2 x 11 paper – in pencil.

                                            iii.     New since Monday  - WHEN Social Pyramid sketch is completed – give students 8-1/2 by 14 inch paper for the final product – inked, colored, fill the page, each layer labeled, title, name in lower right corner

d.    New since Monday - Draw four more dream cards – see board for more ideas.

e.      Social Studies – Read in Blue SS Text – p 400 – 403 (Extension activity)

                                               i.     Answer p 403 #2 and 5 in paragraph form with details from chapter.

f.      New since Monday - Label 12x18 world maps in ink – oceans, continents, lines, seas, gulfs, mountains and rivers.

g.      New since Monday - NO PAINTING of world maps is allowed – it will happen on Thursday and Friday.

I will be out on Monday. Students are responsible for the success of the day. They are required to do the following assignments. The sub plans and the assignments below were explained to students on Friday.

1.     After Roll – students will move into assigned station groups and stay at those tables all day.
